Sole edition with these superb etchings by the French artist Claude Weisbuch (1927–2014). One of 160 numbered copies for the associates of “Les amis du livre contemporain”, from a total edition of 190 copies. Signed by the artist.
Description: Original clamshell box covered in grey suede, with pictorial decoration blocked in black on the front and titled on the spine. Folio: 38 × 28 cm (page size); pp. 142, [1], [2]. 39 folded sheets, uncut and loose as issued in original wrappers. 15 drypoint etchings (protected with tissue-guards), including 1 frontispiece portrait of Molière. Printed on Moulin de Larroque handmade paper.
Provenance: Printed dedication: “imprimé specialement pour le Docteur A. Lambert” above Weisbuch’s signature.
Condition: Box and contents in fine condition.
Notes: Claude Weisbuch’s work is characterised by an emphasis on movement in his lines and a sparing use of colour based on a few earthy tones. His works are represented in the permanent collections of many museums. These include the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
